
DEC nabs notorious drug suppliers in nationwide crackdown

The Drug Enforcement Commission –DEC- has arrested multiple suspects in a nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal activities, conducted between March 1 to 12, 2025.
DEC Public Relations Officer ALLAN TAMBA says in Nyimba District, Eastern Province, JOAM NYIRONGO, 71, of Lusaka’s John Laing area, has been arrested for trafficking 63.9kg of cannabis.
Mr. TAMBA says MARVIS NYAMBE MWIYA, 63, of Chawama, has also been detained for trafficking 7.4kg of loose cannabis.
He also says in Kasempa, North-Western Province, CHRISTINE MWALE, 40, of Garden House, was caught with 1.2kg of high-grade cannabis while DARIUS PHIRI, 21, of Mandevu, was apprehended with 400g of the same substance.
Mr. TAMBA further says that in Lusaka’s Kamwala South, a woman who is regarded as a notorious drug dealer MUKOSA MUKOSA, 26, was arrested with 15 rocks of suspected cocaine and a cannabis joint.
He says additionally, Cameroonian national AGBOR EBOTABEKEM FERDINAND, 48, was caught with $1,400 in counterfeit notes at a shopping mall.
In a statement to ZNBC news in Lusaka today, Mr. TAMBA further revealed that the DEC seized 174 containers of ethanol in Chipata following a public tip-off about illegal activities at a garage.
He said Malawian nationals ALFRED MALUNGA, 47, and DAIDI ZUZE, 45, were arrested and handed over to immigration authorities, while the seized ethanol was turned over to the Zambia Revenue Authority for appropriate action.
Mr. TAMBA said the DEC has reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime and has urged the public to report suspicious activities.
He said all the arrested suspects remain in lawful custody awaiting court appearances.
