DEC seizes boxes of foreign currencies at KKIA

Two foreign nationals have been apprehended in Lusaka for attempting to smuggle out of Zambia EIGHT boxes of over 42.1 Malawian kwacha and other currencies.
The money, comprising various notes of Malawian kwacha was concealed in wooden boxes, and destined for the USA, via a named airline.
The two suspects, of American and Russian nationalities, whose names have been withheld due to the ongoing investigations, were intercepted at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- Spokesperson, ALLAN TAMBA has confirmed the matter, adding that further investigations also found other currencies and properties at the hotel where the suspects were staying.
Among the items found at the respective hotel were a Toyota Hilux, Ipads, iphones and several passports, which have been seized.
Mr. TAMBA explained that investigations in the matter have continued to determine the specific charges and the fate of the suspects.
