Democratic Party Backs Constitutional Amendments
By Ruth Chayinda
Democratic Party leader JUDITH NKONGE says the proposed constitution amendments will enhance development and strengthen the electoral process.
Ms NKONGE says amending some of the clauses in the constitution before 2026 will also increase representation of marginalised groups in the governance of the country.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mrs. NKONGE said as the Government takes the bill to parliament, it should prescribe the number of women, youths and people living with disabilities to be nominated.
She has urged Zambians to avoid looking at the constitution amendment process using political lenses but instead put the interests of the country first.
Mrs. NKONGE said it is unfortunate that there is a click of people who want to fight every progressive move by the Government.
And, another DP leader JUSTIN NKONGE said the amendments being proposed by the Government should be supported as they will contribute to improving the country’s democracy.
