DMMU gives food to Sinda storm victims
By Christopher Miti
The Disaster Management and Mitigating Unit (DMMU) has started distributing food and non-food items to the 267 households in Sinda District that were affected by a storm that swept through the district on Wednesday.
District Commissioner, David Tembo, says the support came from the Eastern Province DMMU office, while other support is expected to come from the DMMU headquarters.
Mr. Tembo said the government is aware of the suffering that the affected families are going through.
He was speaking when DMMU donated the items.
Sinda District DMMU officer, Mary Banda, said the unit is still assessing the damage caused by the storm.
Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries, Cephas Mbewe, has commended the government for its quick response to the disaster.
Mr. Mbewe said the support has come at the right time when most of the affected families are desperate for immediate assistance.
