DMMU gives out 4,000 bags of maize in Mpongwe

The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- in Mpongwe District has distributed 4,000 by 50 kilogram bags of relief maize to drought affected households.
Mpongwe District Disaster Risk Management Officer, JUSTIN CHIMUKA explained that 800 bags were given to vulnerable households for free, while 3,200 bags were distributed under the Food For Work initiative.
Mr. CHIMUKA told ZNBC News that the total number of households affected by drought is 16,000 of which 4,000 have so far benefited from the government relief food program.
He disclosed that the second phase of the distribution of relief food in Mpongwe will start by the end of this week and another 4,000 households will benefit.
