Doctors remove breast tumor weighing 8.5kg

A 24-year-old woman from Nakonde District has undergone surgery to remove a breast tumor weighing 8.5 kilograms.

Priscilla Namukonda says she first noticed pain and swelling in her right breast eight months ago.

Ms. Namukonda added that for the past months, her family has been seeking modern and traditional medicine to treat her condition, but to no avail.

This case was discovered during an outreach program in the district by the Zambia Flying Doctors Service.

General Surgeon Dr. Kelly Makonko from the Zambia Flying Doctors Service said the tumor affected Ms. Namukonda’s entire breast, necessitating its complete removal.
