Don’t detain suspects beyond stipulated period – VEEP

Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO says Government will NOT tolerate Police Officers who detain suspects beyond the stipulated period.
Speaking during the Vice Presidents Question Time in the National Assembly today, Mrs. NALUMANGO said such misconduct will not be allowed.
She said police officers must ensure that individuals are granted bond if the offence committed is bondable.
Mrs. NALUMANGO also reiterated government’s commitment to non-interference in the operations of the judiciary in granting bail.
MEANWHILE, the Vice President has appealed to Members of Parliament in flood-prone constituencies to help provide lasting solutions to mitigate the impact.
Mrs. NALUMANGO emphasized the need for permanent solutions to reduce the risk of floods during the current rainy season.
She disclosed that the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU is on course with preparations for flood mitigation.
Mrs. NALUMANGO further said building resilience is critical in offering permanent solutions to floods.
