Drones can aid disaster response – WFP
By Doreen Chembe
The United Nations World Food Programmes-WFP – says drone technology can be a tool for disaster management.
WFP Country Director, CISSY KABASUUGA says drones can support resilience building initiatives, such as mapping natural resources and monitoring soil health.
Ms. KABASUUGA said this when WFP donated three drones to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit- DMMU- in LUSAKA today.
She said the drones have been donated with funding from the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations – ECHO.
And DMMU National Coordinator GABRIEL POLLEN said the drones will help Government conduct rapid disaster assessments.
Dr. POLLEN said the technology will also help conduct detailed risk mapping and rescue operations when faced with calamities.
