Zambia’s economy is projected to grow by more than six percent next year.
Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE is hopeful that the projection will be sustained unless the country experiences another drought.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE however says the country’s economy growth in 2024 was downgraded to 1.1% as a result of the drought that posed a negative impact on agriculture production.
He says the drought further negatively impacted electricity generation and adversely affecting the manufacturing and other sectors.
Dr. MUSOKOTWANE was speaking in Lusaka today during the 2025 Post Budget and Economic Outlook Symposium under the auspices of the CHINESE Chamber of Commerce.
And Chinese Embassy Counsellor JIN JUN said CHINA is expected to invest five billion dollars in Zambia’s mining sector in the next five years.
Mr. JIN said the projected Chinese Investment will impact positively on Zambia’s economy.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Treasury FELIX NKULUKUSA said two point five million Zambians have so far been put on Social Protection to cushion them from poverty stimulated by drought.
Mr. NKULUKUSA said a further one point three million Zambians are receiving 400 Kwacha Social Cash transfer every month.
