ECZ appoints committee to spearhead reforms

The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ – has appointed RABBISON CHONGO to lead the Electoral Reforms Technical Committee to spearhead the electoral reform process.

ECZ Chairperson MWANGALA ZALOUMIS has since tasked the Committee to address the gaps in the provisions of the constitution and electoral process act.

And Ms. ZALOUMIS says the commission is alive to challenges that article 52 (6) poses in the implementation of nominations and  the electoral process.

She however says that Article 52 (6) should not be considered in isolation as it should be done alongside Article 57 (1).

Ms. ZALOUMIS says some of the provisions that should be revisited is the delimitation of constituencies as it is dependent on the amendment of the constitution, the qualifications and disqualifications for the president , Parliamentarians and councilors.
