ECZ considers legal action against Tonse Alliance
By Wilson Mulinda
The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- is considering taking legal action against members of the Tonse Alliance who stormed the nomination centre without accreditation when accompanying New Congress Party -NCP- candidate DANSTAN MWANSA during the filing-in process in Kawambwa.
The notable individuals that stormed the nomination center include Mambilima Member of Parliament JEAN CHISENGA, NCP Lawyer CELESTINE MUKANDILA and NCP President PETER CHANDA.
ECZ Senior Corporate Affairs Officer SYLVIA BWALYA says the commission is dismayed by the statement issued by Tonse Alliance Spokesperson SEAN TEMBO claiming that the Returning Officer was forced to accept the nomination for NCP.
Ms. BWALYA says the Returning Officer, after due consideration, accepted the nomination papers from NCP for further scrutiny.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, she said the conduct of the Tonse Alliance Members is a breach to the electoral process.
Ms. BWALYA says allegations that the Commission intends to nullify the nominations for the NCP candidate are false, unwarranted and meant to mislead and misinform the public.
