ECZ to undertake mass voter registration
By Rosemary Kamanga
The Electoral Commission of Zambia –ECZ- says it will undertake a mass voter registration exercise in the second quarter of 2025 to cover the entire country.
ECZ Chairperson, MWANGALA ZALOUMIS says this is an essential component of the commission’s preparations for the 2026 general election.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting in Lusaka today, Ms. ZALOUMIS appealed to everyone to support the process to ensure its success.
She also said the commission’s continuous voter registration has been ongoing since June 2022.
And Ms. ZALOUMIS said the commission took a crucial step in January 2025 by signing a contract for the supply and delivery of ballot papers and other election-related materials.
Meanwhile, ECZ Commissioner retired Major General VINCENT MUKANDA said political violence during elections can be stopped.
General MUKANDA added that the answer to ending political violence lies with the political leaders.
And Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue –ZCID- Board Chairperson STELLA BECKER commended the ECZ for increased Continuous Voter Registration centres to make the exercise more accessible.
