Elephant kills Livingstone man

An elephant has killed a middle-aged man of Dambwa North, in Freedom Ward, in Livingstone.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, AUXENSION DAKA, has confirmed the incident to ZNBC News.
Mr. DAKA says the incident happened between 20:00 hours on Saturday evening and 06:00 hours, Sunday morning.
Livingstone District Commissioner, EUNICE NAWA, who was found at the scene of the incident, told ZNBC News that government is working towards finding a solution to the rising animal-human conflict in the district.
Meanwhile, Freedom Ward Councillor, LUCKSON MUMBA, has appealed to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to consider patrolling the area to save peoples’ lives.
David Livingstone College of Education Principal DARIUS MUMBA, says the elephants have become a major concern, invading the area as early as 19:00 hours daily.
Some of the residents talked to have identified the deceased as MORGAN, a person with intellectual disabilities.
The residents say the heavy presence of elephants in Dambwa North is becoming a serious threat to the lives of school going children, especially in the morning.
The body of the deceased has been picked up by the Police and deposited to Batoka Mortuary awaiting further identification and post-mortem.
