Elephants destroy gardens and houses in Chipangali
By Christopher Miti
Elephants are destroying people’s gardens and houses in Chief CHANJE’s area, in Chipangali district, eastern province.
The elephants, which are believed to have come from the Kasungu National Park in Malawi, are in search of food.
The elephants raided Kamkomole farm which borders the Kasungu National Park, and destroyed vegetable gardens, cassava, and banana plantations, over the weekend.
Chief CHANJE has confirmed to ZNBC news, and appealed to government to find a lasting solution to the problem.
He said there is need for relevant authorities to address the situation in order to safeguard peoples’ lives.
And Chipangali District Commissioner, PAUL SAKALA said his office has already received a report and has escalated it to the office of Provincial Permanent Secretary.
Mr. SAKALA said there is need to engage the Malawian government and the International Fund for Animal Welfare over the matter.
