
ERB Approves 89 Licenses and 8 Construction Permits in Energy Sector

The Energy Regulation Board -ERB- approved 89 license applications and eight construction permits in the petroleum and renewable energy subsectors in February this year.
This represent a combined investment of 10.9 billion Kwacha, which is approximately 381 Million United States dollars.
ERB Director of Corporate and Consumer Affairs, MWIIKA MALINDIMA. says the licenses and permits cover critical activities within the energy sector.
Mr. MALINDIMA. says this is expected to promote investment and economic growth in Zambia’s energy sector.
He says this is in line with the government’s efforts to promote competition and enhance investment in the electricity sector through the introduction of open access.
Meanwhile, ERB Manager of Public Relations, NAMUKOLO KASUMPA, disclosed that the construction permits granted account for 189 million dollars.
This includes the 50 Megawatt solar power plant in Luanshya District and a 330 kilovolt transmission line from Lusaka substation to Kabwe substation.
And ERB Financial Analyst MANGANI PHIRI disclosed that the net metering project received 19 applications, with three being successful in 2025.
