ERB assures nation of stable fuel supply
The Energy Regulation Board ERB has assured the nation of stable fuel supply with sufficient stocks of both diesel and petrol to meet national demand.
ERB Director General ELIJAH SICHONE says the country has maintained an average of 34.5 million litres of diesel daily, against a national consumption of 3.8 million litres.
Mr. SICHONE says petrol stocks are at 9.6 million litres as at last Friday against a daily consumption of 1.6 million litres.
He says the reserves are sufficient to cover the country’s demand for several days.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. SICHONE has also acknowledged logistical challenges that have slowed fuel imports.
He says the slowed supply emanates from changes in transit fuel regulations in neighboring countries such as Zimbabwe, which have resulted in a shift of transportation routes.
He has assured the public that despite the challenges, the fuel supply remains stable and ERB continues to monitor and update the nation on the status of fuel stocks.
Mr. SICHONE says government through line ministries is already engaging Zimbabwe on the new transit regulations introduced by that country.
