Erring small scale mining firms lose rights

Government has revoked the mining rights for some small scale miners within Mopani Copper Mines Licence Area in Mufulira on the Copperbelt Province.

The affected Small-Scale miners are Digi Wave Branding Limited, Zambia Federation of Co-operatives in Mining Society Limited, FEBIAN MUBUYAETA, FAITH MUSHONGO, GEORGINA MWANSA, and VOSTER HAMPAKO.

This decision by the Mining Licensing Committee follows failure of the rights holders to obtain the required mining consents from Mopani Copper Mines.

Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Principal Public Relations Officer SHAMWINDA TEMBO told ZNBC News that the affected rights holders are required to surrender their mining licences to the Director of the Mining Cadastre Department immediately.

Mr. TEMBO said the affected rights holders must also demobilize and vacate the site to allow Mopani Copper Mines PLC to continue operations without disruption.
