EU to continue supporting smallholder farmers
NAIS-The European Union -EU- says it will continue to support small and medium enterprises and small holder farmers in the country.
EU Head of Cooperation, CLAUDIO BACIGALUPI says this will be through initiatives such as the 800 million Kwacha Enterprise Zambia Challenge Fund.
Mr BACIGALUPI says despite the implementation of the Enterprise challenge fund ending in 2025, the EU is planning to mobilize member states to secure more resources to continue the initiative.
He said this in Kafue district during the launch of the fish farm and hatchery at Zambika Aqua Farm Limited, supported by the EU and Enterprise Zambia Challenge Fund.
And Fisheries and Livestock Minister, PETER KAPALA has said the establishment aligns with the government’s strategic goal of producing 460-million fish fingerlings by 2025.
This was in a speech read on the Minister’s behalf by Ministry Director of Fisheries, EVANS MUTANUKA.
Meanwhile, Zambika Aqua Farm Project Manager, DANNY MUBANGA says the project has trained and empowered over 1,000 smallholder fish farmers in various disciplines of the aquaculture value chain.
