
Ex- cabinet minister NAWAKWI has died

Former Cabinet Minister in the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy -MMD Government EDITH NAWAKWI has died.
Ms. NAWAKWI, 66, who is also Forum for Democracy and Development –FDD- President, died today in South Africa where she was evacuated for specialist treatment.
Secretary to the Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA has confirmed in a statement to ZNBC News today.
Mr. KANGWA said Ms. NAWAKWI had a distinguished political career and served in the Cabinet of Second President FREDRICK CHILUBA from 1993 to 2001.
This was as Minister of Energy and Water Development, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, Minister of Finance and Economic Development and Minister of Labour and Social Security.
Mr. KANGWA said Ms. NAWAKWI was first appointed as Deputy Minister for Energy and Water Development and served from 1991 to 1993.
He has since advised the public that the funeral gathering for the Former Cabinet Minister is being held at her residence plot 55, Luwato Road, Roma Township in Lusaka.
Mr. KANGWA said Cabinet Office is working in collaboration with the family of Ms. NAWAKWI on the repatriation of the body from South Africa.
He said a detailed funeral programme will be released once the burial arrangements are finalised.
