Expedite drafting of ZNBC, IBA Bills – KAWANA

Information and Media Permanent Secretary THABO KAWANA says there is need to expedite the drafting of the ZNBC and Independent Broadcasting Authority – IBA – Bills.
Mr. KAWANA says the two bills are critical in improving and shaping the future of the broadcasting industry in Zambia.
He said this when he officiated at a meeting for legislative drafting of the ZNBC and IBA Bills in Chongwe District.
And Mr. KAWANA said the regulations in the two bills should ensure they promote pluralism and protect the rights of the Journalists and the Media.
He said the repealing and replacing of the IBA Act is important as it will facilitate the transfer of television levy from IBA to ZNBC.
Mr. KAWANA said the ZNBC Bill is key in strengthening the corporation’s mandate to serve the public and adapt to the evolving media landscape.
He has since praised the technical working group drafting the two Bills for their dedication.
And ZNBC Director General, BERRY LWANDO said the Bill is critical and progressive for the national broadcaster.
Meanwhile, Acting IBA Director General SUSAN NDUMINGU said the repealing of the IBA Act will enable the authority to regulate online broadcasting firms.
