Fake Fertilizer on the Market
By Kasabula Muchimba
The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency is investigating a scam in which some business owners in Lusaka’s Central Business district are allegedly supplying fake fertilizer on the market.
This comes after complaints by some farmers who have already started planting winter maize that the fertilizer is fake resulting in crop failure.
ZCSA Acting Manager Communications and Public Relations BRIAN HATYOKA has confirmed this saying that all those found wanting will face the law.
And Mr HATYOKA says the agency has concluded inspections on factories that produce fertilizer in the country and all have been found to be compliant and ready to supply inputs for the next farming season.
He says going forward farmers are advised to buy fertilizer from known brands in order to avoid being scammed.
