Finance Minister Announces Significant Increase in Zambia’s Copper Production
By Ruth Chayinda
Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane has revealed that Zambia increased its copper production to over 800,000 metric tonnes in 2024, compared to 720,000 tonnes in 2023.
Dr. Musokotwane says this is despite the electricity deficit.
He says the increase is a result of good policies in the mining sector and the reopening of some major mines.
Dr. Musokotwane expressed optimism that the country will this year increase its production to between 950,000 metric tonnes and one million tonnes.
The Minister said this during the launch of the Zambia Poverty and Equity Assessment in Lusaka.
Dr. Musokotwane further said the government has also recorded increased investments in the agriculture sector through the establishment of a fertiliser plant, which has become a net exporter.
