By Paul Shalala
Senior Chief MUSHOTA of the Chishinga people of Kawambwa District has called for peaceful and issue-based campaigns in the forthcoming Pambashe parliamentary by-election.
Senior Chief MUSHOTA says he does not want to hear any name calling or violence during the parliamentary by-election which will be held in his chiefdom.
The Senior Chief was speaking when Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs LEVY NGOMA and newly elected Kawambwa Central Member of Parliament NASON MUSONDA paid a courtesy call on him at Ilombe Palace.
He urged politicians to take a leaf from President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA who is advocating for peace and national unity.
The traditional leader said all political parties must adhere to the campaign timetable which the Electoral Commission of Zambia will issue so that there is no clash in campaign programmes.
Senior Chief MUSHOTA said the campaigns must be peaceful because politics must not divide Zambians.
Meanwhile, Senior Chief MUSHOTA has called on President HICHILEMA to declare Pambashe Constituency as a District.
Senior Chief MUSHOTA says Pambashe Constituency has three major rivers, nine investors and many waterfalls which can support the sustainability of the district.
He said the creation of the district will bring jobs to the locals.
Senior Chief MUSHOTA said the three major rivers and waterfalls have the potential to be dammed and produce electricity for the nation.
And Mr. NGOMA asked the traditional leader for land where irrigation projects can be located.
He said the MUSHOTA Chiefdom is blessed with abundant rainfall and water bodies which can support irrigation.
Mr. NGOMA said President HICHILEMA tasked him to request for land where government can set up irrigation plants for farming to be done all year round.
And Chief CHAMA has called on politicians at all levels of leadership to keep the nation’s peace.
Chief CHAMA said political leaders must not allow violence because it infringes on people’s freedoms.
