Former DRC Territory Residents Appeal for Zambian Citizenship
By Lucky Phiri
About two thousand residents of Kansaki, an area in Kaputa, Northern Province, which was previously part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), are seeking Zambian citizenship.
This is after the area officially became part of Zambia following a SADC remapping programme.
One of the residents, Lucia Bunda, has appealed to the Zambian government to issue them with National Registration Cards (NRCs).
Meanwhile, another resident, Micah Busindi, has emphasized the need for essential social amenities, such as schools and healthcare facilities, in the area.
Kaputa Member of Parliament, Elvis Nkandu, who has visited the area, has promised to engage the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the issuance of NRCs.
