FRA pays out K3.6bn to maize suppliers

The Food Reserve Agency -FRA- has purchased over 593,000 metric tonnes of non-genetically modified maize.
This is equivalent to 11 million, 870,280 by 50 Kilogramme Bags of non-GMO maize.
FRA Public Relations Coordinator JOHN CHIPANDWE has told ZNBC News that the Agency has since paid out 3.6 billion Kwacha to maize suppliers.
Mr. CHIPANDWE says that the maize was purchased locally mainly from Provinces that did not experience drought.
He says the quantity does not include maize that the Government has bought from Tanzania.
Mr. CHIPANDWE has explained that the quantity added to the Maize the country is importing from Tanzania will be used to sustain National food security.
He says FRA is confident that the purchased quantity including the imported maize is sufficient to address the current situation and that no one will die of hunger.
