Fundamentals of Zambia’s economy remain strong-UPND
The UPND says the fundamentals of Zambia’s economy remain strong despite the drought which has resulted in electricity shortages.
This follows the just released AFRO Barometer report to mark the International day for the eradication of poverty, which has placed Zambia as the highest ranked African country whose efforts aimed at improving people’s living standards are gaining ground.
UPND Deputy Media Director CHEELO KATAMBO says the report has qualified the long held position that Zambia under the leadership of the UPND and President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is on course with its people centred development agenda.
Mr. KATAMBO says despite inheriting an economy reeling under heavy debt and mismanagement, the UPND administration has demonstrated capacity to manage its resources wisely in the face of adversity.
He told ZNBC News in a Statement that by reducing domestic financing needs and implementing proactive spending reprioritization, the country has been able to contain fiscal pressures that could have further exacerbated economic challenges.
He has since called on Zambians not to be derailed but rally behind President HICHILEMA and the UPND as they address the challenges being experienced.
The report which covers the period between 2021 and 2023, covers a total of 39 African countries giving Zambia the highest score at 54 percent, followed by Tanzania at 51 percent.
