Global Climate calls for robust Climate Policies
By MacPherson Mukuka
The Global Climate and Health Alliance (GCHA) has called for urgent and robust climate policies that prioritize health and well-being.
GCHA Executive Director JENNY MILLER has emphasized that as world leaders prepare for COP29, political decisions made during the conference will have profound implications for public health worldwide.
Speaking during a pre COP29 virtual press briefing, Dr MILLER says with extreme weather events becoming more frequent, there is need to address intersections of climate change and health.
And Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) Senior Programme Manager TARA DANIEL says adequate funding is essential for implementing effective climate action.
Ms. DANIEL points out that the current financial mechanisms have failed to address the urgent needs of marginalized communities most affected by climate change.
Meanwhile, Amref Health Africa Climate Change Health Advocacy Lead FRIDAY PHIRI has called for a united effort to integrate health considerations into climate policies.
Mr. PHIRI notes that vulnerable populations are facing increasing health challenges due to rising temperatures and extreme weather events.
