Government Denies Overpaying for Tanzanian Maize
(NAIS) Agriculture Minister REUBEN MTOLO says government purchased maize in #Tanzania at 350 United States dollars per metric tonne which was the same price that was paid to local maize producers.
Mr. #MTOLO says this is contrary to sentiments by some sections of society who are accusing government of purchasing maize in Tanzania at an exorbitant price.
He says out of the contracted 195,000 metric tonnes, 155,000 has been delivered with 40,000 remaining to be delivered.
Mr. MTOLO was speaking during the 2025 #AGRITECH EXPO in Chisamba District.
And #British Deputy High Commissioner to Zambia, JASON TRAN praised government for reforming the Farmer Input Support Programme from Direct Input Supply –DIS- to E-Voucher system in the 2025-2026 farming season.
Mr. TRAN said the E-Voucher system has proven to be a suitable method of ensuring that only eligible farmers access the farming inputs.
He emphasized that agricultural policy reforms play a crucial role in strengthening farmers’ capacity to produce more and improve their livelihoods.
Mr. TRAN however, reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to transforming Zambia’s agriculture sector to become the food basket of the continent.
