Government Orders ZESCO to Stick to Load Schedule
By Ruth Chayinda
Government has directed ZESCO to adhere to the SEVEN hours load management schedule countrywide.
Energy Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE says this is to ensure predictability and minimize disruptions to households, businesses, and essential services.
Mr. CHIKOTE says ZESCO should ensure strict compliance with the agreed seven-hour schedule and improve communication with consumers regarding any necessary changes.
He has also advised ZESCO to continue importing electricity from regional partners.
Mr. CHIKOTE notes that while the imports will help stabilize supply in the short term, government remains focused on boosting local power generation for long-term energy security.
He said this during a high-level meeting attended by ZESCO Board and management, the Energy Regulation Board –ERB- and the Rural Electrification Authority -REA.
And Mr. CHIKOTE directed ZESCO to accelerate efforts to add an additional 1,000 Mega Watts of power to the national grid by the end of the year.
And, ZESCO has assured that the company will implement the agreed load management schedule and will fast-track power generation projects as guided by the government.
ZESCO Managing Director JUSTIN LOONGO further assured that all new projects under the firm will be delivered on time, in line with the company’s goal of improving electricity generation and distribution efficiency.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Energy Principal Public Relations Officer BOB SIANJALIKA.
