Government to review Wetlands Guidelines
By Honester Mshoka
Government has announced plans to review guidelines for sustainable utilization of wetlands in Zambia this year.
Lands and Natural Resources Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says the revised guidelines will provide procedures for sustainable management of wetlands, monitoring and quality assurance.
Speaking during the commemoration of World Wetlands Day in Lusaka, Ms. MASEBO said wetlands are important to socio-economic development.
She said it is for this reason that Zambians enjoy benefits from wetlands without compromising future generations.
Ms. MASEBO said the Ministry has also begun revising the 2015 National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan to align it with the Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework and the Eighth National Development Plan.
Meanwhile, World Wide Fund for Nature-WWF Director NALUCHA ZIBA pledged to continue raising awareness through the media to protect wetlands for future generations.
