Govt commends World Fish for financing research
Fisheries and Livestock Minister PETER KAPALA says the establishment of research laboratories at the Natural Resources Development College -NRDC- to produce high quality and affordable fish feed will increase the production
of Tilapia and catfish production by 20 percent.
Mr. KAPALA says the fish rations that will be developed at NRDC will be disseminated to small and medium feed millers in rural and peri urban areas to enable fish farmers access and adopt the improved fish feed.
He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Director of Fisheries EVANS MUTANUKA during the annual planning meeting for the Development and Scaling of Sustainable Feeds for Resilient Aquatic Food Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa (FASA).
And WorldFish Director for Aquatic Food Biosciences RODRIGUE YOSSA said the goal of the FASA project is to support FIVE THOUSAND smallholder aquatic food producers in Zambia, Nigeria, and Kenya increase fish production.
Meanwhile, WorldFish Zambia and Southern Africa Director VICTOR SIAMUDAALA has commended the Zambian government for supporting the FASA project to carry out laboratory experiments at NRDC.
