The government is concerned with the illegal mining activities in the Kyafuma area of Solwezi District, North-Western Province, where people are mining for amethyst stones.
North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Luckson Mulumbi, has called on the miners to form cooperatives and practice safe and legal mining.
Speaking during a visit to the site, Mr. Mulumbi said the government will not condone illegal mining activities, adding that the miners should soon legalize their mining activities at the site.
Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa called for collaborative efforts to address the illegal mining activities in the area.
