Govt demolishes properties to pave the way for drainage system
By Musonda Mwewa
Government has demolished properties built on waterways along the 7070 road in Lusaka.
Local Government Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, NICHOLAS PHIRI says the move will facilitate the construction of a drainage system.
He says the government has spent 1.4 million Kwacha in compensating affected residents and that eight more properties are yet to be demolished.
Speaking during the tour of Kanyama constituency, Mr. PHIRI says the evaluation of 47 properties around Lady Diana has been completed and works have started.
He has since praised property owners for giving the government a go ahead even before compensation is effected.
Meanwhile, ZNS Chief of Land Development Branch JEPHAN MUKANDA says so far about 44 percent of works on the drainage along Kalusha Bwalya Road has been done.
