Govt determined to sustain 95-95-95 target
ZANIS- Health Minister ELIJAH MUCHIMA says the government is determined to sustain the 95-95-95 UNAIDS target achieved by Zambia as of September this year.
The target aims for 95 percent of people living with HIV to be aware of their status, 95 percent of those aware of their status to be on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and 95 percent of those on ART to achieve viral load suppression.
Dr MUCHIMA was speaking when officially opening the three day 16th Annual National HIV/TB/ STI/ VIRAL Hepatitis conference in Lusaka.
He noted that while 98 percent of people living with HIV know their status, 98 are on ART and 97 percent have viral suppression, Zambia needs to sustain these successes.
Speaking at the same event, UNAIDS Country Director UNAIDS Country Director ISAAC AHEMESAH described, as critical, the role of communities in ending HIV.
And US Ambassador to Zambia, MICHAEL GONZALEZ said Zambia still has treatment gaps in children and adolescents which need to be addressed.
