Govt devolving record management
By Wilson Mulinda
Government says it is devolving records management functions to local authorities to improve access and service delivery for citizens.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU says the government is also actively addressing challenges at the national archives of Zambia, which includes insufficient storage space in provincial records centers and inadequate transport.
Mr. MWIIMBU says the ministry has developed a 10 year infrastructure development plan to reconstruct purposely built provincial record centers to address the challenge of storage space.
He says Zambia has got a very rich and attractive history which must always educate and enrich future generations.
Mr. MWIIMBU said this in a speech read for him by Permanent Secretary DICKSON MATEMBO during the launch of the 60 years exhibition at the National Archives in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, National Archives Acting Director, EMMANUEL SIANJANI said the exhibition plays a role in safeguarding historical records and documents for future generations.
Acting British High Commissioner to Zambia SAM WALDOCK says Zambia’s democratic and cultural evolution is admirable and inspires other countries to emulate.
