Govt engages contractor for Siakalinda dam
Construction for Africa Limited Company has been engaged to finish the construction of the Siakalinda Dam in the Siavonga district of Southern Province.
This follows the expiration of the contract for the construction of the dam on December 15, 2024.
Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation Principal Public Relations Officer Prince Chiyuni says the contract was given to Construction for Africa Limited Company, who are being reengaged to finish the remaining 15 percent of the work.
Mr. Chiyuni says the work will be completed after the rainy season.
In a statement to ZNBC News, Mr. Chiyuni said that contrary to speculations, the contractor did not abandon the project; the contract simply expired.
He said the government has been working with the contractor to construct an emergency spillway to evacuate floodwater and protect the integrity of the dam wall.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Mr. Chiyuni.
