
Govt launches Athlete Support Initiative

Government has launched the Presidential Athlete Support Initiative -PASI-, a programme aimed at providing top-notch training and support to Zambian athletes.
This will enable the athletes to compete at the highest level.
Speaking at the launch in Lusaka, Sports Minister, ELVIS NKANDU said the initiative is a testament to President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s dedication to providing athletes with the best environment, exposure and training.
And Zambia Athletics President ELIAS MPONDELA said five Zambian athletes and one coach are currently in Jamaica, receiving specialized training under renowned coach GREG MILLS, who has coached athletes like USAIN BOLT.
MPONDELA said MUZALA SAMUKONGA and Coach DOUGLAS KALEMBO will join the team on March 26, this year.
The Presidential Athlete Support Initiative mobilization team has been created by Liquid Intelligent Technologies under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer MARK TOWNSEND.
TOWNSEND said the initiative which was made to sponsor athletes to Jamaica has already expanded with plans of sponsoring not just Athletics but all Sports disciplines in the country.
Meanwhile, National Olympic Committee of Zambia -NOCZ- President ALFRED FOLOKO said the Zambia Athletics has worked hard and that this can be seen by the bronze medal and the number of tournaments coming ahead.
