Govt nears target in cattle vaccination drive

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has vaccinated one point nine million out of the targeted TWO million cattle against foot and mouth disease in high risk districts across the country.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister PETER KAPALA has also revealed that from January to date, over one point for million out of a target of one point five million animals have been vaccinated against other diseases.
Speaking during a media briefing, Mr. KAPALA said this marks significant progress in vaccination campaigns aimed at combating foot and mouth disease in the country.
He also revealed that the country has NOT experienced any cases of major animal diseases.
Mr. KAPALA however expressed concern on the increase in Tick-borne diseases, particularly in Eastern and Southern Provinces, due to heavy rainfall which has boosted tick populations.
