Govt not using delimitation for political gain

The Ministry of Justice says it has no authority in the #delimitation process because it is an exercise carried out by the #Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ.

Justice Permanent Secretary MWENYA BWALYA says reports suggesting that Government intends to use delimitation to create more constituencies in areas where the ruling party holds strong influence are therefore misleading.

Speaking at a media breakfast in Lusaka today, Mrs. BWALYA further explained that delimitation will ensure an equitable distribution of resources.

And Civil Society Representatives urged Zambians to support the proposed constitution amendments saying there is no perfect time for such changes.

Common Grounds Network Executive Director DAVID MVULA expressed disappointment that some sectors are claiming there is no time for reform simply for the sake of political debate.

Meanwhile, #Gender Division Permanent Secretary MAINGA #KABIKA urged political parties to adopt a minimum of 30 percent women candidates ahead of the 2026 general election.
