Govt reduces transit permit fees

Government has reduced transit permit fees for foreign transporters under the Department of Immigration.
Transit Permits will now be 4,500 Kwacha effective Monday December 9,2024 for first time application and duplicate as compared to 12,000 Kwacha in the past.
According to Statutory Instrument number 78 of 2024, the price for renewal has been reduced to 5,625 Kwacha from 15,000 Kwacha.
Department of Immigration Director General JAPHET LISHOMWA says the reduction follows a stakeholder consultative process involving both local and international state and non-state actors in addressing the plight of foreign truck drivers.
Dr. LISHOMWA told ZNBC News that the high increase in the fees sparked complaints from some truck drivers.
