Govt rehabs 4 dams in SP
The government has rehabilitated four dams in Southern Province as a mitigation strategy against the effects of drought in the province.
This has been done through the Development Support Project (IDSP) funded by the World Bank.
Speaking during an interview with NAIS, Southern Province Agricultural Coordinator, Alfred Sianjase, said the dams are Ndondi and Nachiba Dam in Pemba, Nkolokozya Dam in Zimba, and Makala Dam in Namwala.
Mr. Sianjase says the dams will provide water for irrigation to ensure food security in the province throughout the year.
Pemba District Agricultural Coordinator, Robert Tembo, confirmed that the two rehabilitated dams in the district will increase water holding capacity even when the area experiences drought.
Meanwhile, Ndondi Dam Chairperson, Gives Muleya Hachikosola, confirmed that about 400 households will benefit from the rehabilitated Ndondi Dam.
