Govt releases funds for dams in Luangeni
By Christopher Miti
The government has released funds for the construction and rehabilitation of five dams in Luangeni Constituency of Chipata District.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Paul Thole, says one dam will be constructed while four others will be rehabilitated.
Mr. Thole assured the people of Luangeni that they will soon have sufficient water for their animals.
Luangeni Member of Parliament, Moses Moyo, says he is grateful to President Hakainde Hichilema for responding to the people’s cry for dams in the area.
Mr. Moyo, who is also the second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, said the dams will also encourage farmers to venture into irrigation farming.
He says some dams will be constructed by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) while others will be allocated to contractors.
Eastern Province Water Development Officer, Robert Kanene, says ZNS is expected to start rehabilitation works on Msupadzi Two Dam.
Mr. Kanene says over 4 million kwacha has been allocated for the Msupadzi Two Dam and the works will take less than a year.
