Govt sends K256m to 95 councils for devolution program

The Ministry of Local government has disbursed 256 million Kwacha capital grants to 95 town councils as part of the financial support towards the implementation of Zambia Devolution Support Program -ZDSP.

Local Government Permanent Secretary for Administration MAAMBO HAMAUNDU says each of the benefiting councils will receive over 2 million kwacha.

Mr. HAMAUNDU says the capital grant disbursed to the Local Authorities will be utilized in financing capital investment activities.

He said the grants will be utilized towards the purchase of equipment necessary for local service delivery in Local Authorities in order to supplement what is already being financed from other sources.

ZDSP is a Government led program supported by the World Bank, and is aimed at supporting some components of the National Decentralization Policy, through the Ministry of Local Government and runs from 2023 to 2028.
