Govt. sets $1 billion beef exports target
By Masauso Mkwayaya
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says Government has set a target to export beef worth over one billion U.S dollars within the next five to ten years.
President HICHILEMA says a Zambian consultant has been engaged to help increase the country’s livestock numbers in preparation for the export market.
Speaking during an interactive session with youths at the 2025 Youth Indaba, President HICHILEMA explained that the consultant is working closely with the Presidential Delivery Unit -PDU- to achieve this goal.
The President HICHILEMA was responding to RUTH NGOMA, a youth from Chingola on the Copperbelt, who inquired about Government’s plans to diversify the economy beyond copper dependence.
And the President has directed Government to consider establishing a youth tree-planting project in all constituencies to combat the effects of climate change.
President HICHILEMA made this commitment in response to BEVERLY NAMUKANYA, an environmental entrepreneur, who called for a youth-led initiative in all constituencies to provide tree seedlings as a means of creating jobs and sustainable livelihoods.
And The President announced that Government is issuing small-scale artisanal mining licenses to empower young people to engage in legal and safe mining.
He said the country’s mineral resources must be exploited in an orderly manner to benefit all citizens.
President HICHILEMA also cautioned that no region should claim exclusive ownership of minerals found in their areas, as these resources belong to all Zambians.
The President was responding to HUMPHREY KAWAMA, a youth from Muchinga Province, who sought clarity on Government’s efforts to issue more artisanal mining licenses to young people.
