The government, through the Department of Resettlement in the Office of the Vice President, has started setting up permanent camps in Monze and Namwala areas for people in flood-prone regions.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit National Coordinator, Gabriel Pollen, says the government’s initiative to set up permanent camps is a great step towards providing infrastructure and livelihood support to those affected.
In an interview with ZNBC News, Dr. Pollen said the country’s approach to early warning systems, community engagement, and risk management has paid off, as seen in the successful relocation of people to upland communities.
He said the country’s commitment to addressing climate change is evident in its National Climate Change Response Strategy, which aims to enhance the resilience of communities and protect economic growth, food security, and the environment.
