Govt to build Multipurpose sports facilities in all constituencies

Government says it will build multipurpose sports facilities in each of the 156 constituencies.

Sports Minister ELVIS NKANDU says the facilities will be built at a cost between 7 and 15 million Kwacha using the Constituency Development Fund -CDF.

In a ministerial statement to the National Assembly, NKANDU said the exact cost will depend on the features which the facilities will have such as football pitches, volleyball courts and running tracks among others.

He said the facilities will be used as talent identification platforms for professional athletes needed in various national teams.

NKANDU said the facilities will also promote healthy living which is important to preventing non-communicable diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure.

NKANDU has advised Members of Parliament to sensitize their constituents on the importance of the facilities and how to access the Sports Fund under the Constituency Development Fund -CDF.
