Govt to Continue Funding Social Welfare Programmes
Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE says government will continue to fund social welfare programmes to mitigate vulnerability among citizens.
Dr MUSOKOTWANE says this will also help in pushing for economic transformation and growth.
He says the sustained funding of social sector programmes such as cash for work, social cash transfer, the food security pack, and the school feeding initiative reflect Government’s commitment to ensuring that no-one is left hungry.
In March, Government spent 333.3 million Kwacha for the Cash for Work Programme and 200 Million Kwacha went to the Food Security Pack Programme.
Dr MUSOKOTWANE says the Ministry released 12.4 billion Kwacha to finance public service delivery, of which, 4.9 billion Kwacha went to the public service wage bill, 2.9 billion Kwacha to debt service both domestic and external.
And Dr. MUSOKOTWANE says President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA expects all in Government to ensure that the interest of Zambian’s take precedence in the economic transformation and growth agenda.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Secretary to the Treasury.
