Govt to formalize small scale mining using Project Gold

Government has launched the planet Gold project to formalise small scale miners’ operations.
Zambia Environmental Management Agency -ZEMA-Acting Director of Operations CHRISTOPHER KANEMA says Government is set to formalise the small scale gold mining sector.
Mr. KANEMA told ZNBC News that currently the sector has 30,000 miners with only about six hundred formalized.
He said the formalisation will reduce the use of mercury which is harmful to health.
Mr. KANEMA said miners should be aware of the dangers of mercury.
