Govt to Install power generators at public facilities

Government will install diesel generators in various strategic places to mitigate the impact of load shedding.
Energy Minister, MAKOZO CHIKOTE says health facilities, markets and learning institutions have been prioritized on this energy initiative.
And, Mr. CHIKOTE has also announced that the Cabinet Office has directed that all public institutions switch to solar.
Speaking during the National Energy update, Mr CHIKOTE said his ministry working with the Rural Electrification Authority -REA- has started conducting feasibility studies on public institutions and the exercise is expected to be completed by September 2024.
Mr. CHIKOTE also said ZESCO has recalled 260 megawatts from electricity exports which was at 500 megawatts to cushion the power deficit.
Meanwhile, Water Development Minister, COLLINS NZOVU said the water situation in affected areas is likely to improve by January or February 2025.
And, Green Economy and Environment Minister, MIKE MPOSHA advised Zambians to ignore myths that prevent them from using gas for cooking because it is a safe energy source.
