Govt to offer its workers solar solutions

Government has introduced a facility that will enable civil servants to access affordable alternative energy products.
Energy Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE says the partnership with the Public Service Micro Finance Company will provide flexible financing facilities for consumers.
Mr. CHIKOTE disclosed this in a speech read on his behalf by Energy Permanent Secretary PETER MUMBA during the official commissioning of the 111-Kilowatt-peak Chunga solar mini grid in Mumbwa district today.
Mr. CHIKOTE said a number of banks have already shown interest to provide financing facilities for affordable solar products.
Meanwhile, the Energy Minister has disclosed that Zesco has continued engaging with Namibian authorities to ensure that the fault on the Namibian route is rectified.
And Rural Electrification Authority -REA-board member, KENNETH MUTETO said REA will by the end of this year complete eleven more solar grid projects across the country.
And Mumbwa District Commissioner NAMUKOLO HAYUMBWA expressed happiness with the development, saying it will go a long way in developing the community around Chunga area.
Meanwhile, Presidential Delivery Unit Director Energy and Infrastructure CUTHBERT MUNANKWENKWA told journalists in an interview that the commissioning of the power plant is a milestone in the government’s agenda to improve rural connectivity.
